Stanton's Shopping Center is located in Alvin, Texas which is 30 miles south of Houston and 30 miles northwest of Galveston. The store opened in 1922 as a wood and coal yard owned by E.J. Stanton and his son, George. As the years went by Stanton's grew into selling almost everything: animal feeds, seeds, hardware, appliances, gifts, groceries, clothes, shoes, gas, a restaurant and even cars for a period of time. George Stanton had a saying, "If we don't have it you dont need it."

Stanton's has always been big into the production meats. In the 1930's quality meats were hard to find in the area. So George Stanton built his own feed lot and slaughter house in Alvin to supply quality beef to his store. His Hereford steers were of the utmost quality. He twice won the prestigious car load of steers competition the Houston Fat Stock Show in 1934 and again in 1946. Today the store is run by George's son, Warren Stanton and his sons, Allen, Neal, and Paul Stanton.

Smoked Sausage and boudin making are an ever growing part of the Stanton's business. Allen Stanton a 1983 graduate of Texas A&M and a member of its meats and livestock judging teams says, "Stanton's smoked meats and boudin have a great reputation for being simply the best. Our customers come from miles around to buy our products because they can taste the difference."

Deer processing is another growing business. "Deer hunters bring their deer for processing to the store, Allen explains, " We make all kinds of smoke link sausage, deer snack sticks, summer sausage etc. These hunters bring them back to deer camp to share with their friends. Good word of mouth and the great taste of our products are our best advertisements."

However not everyone has the opportunity to go deer hunting or the financial means to have a hunting lease. "Thats where Stanton's wild deer smoked sausage comes in," replies Allen. "Our wild deer smoked products are made from wild exotic deers harvested in Texas under state inspection. These wild deer sausages give everyone the chance to taste the taste of the great Texas outdoors not to mention the lean, healthy qualities of deer sausage."

Stanton's Boudin is equally steeped in quality. Allen explains, "We make our boudin from locally grown Alvin rice and teh flavor is just one of a kind. All the ingredients are wholesome. Try it, the whole family will love it."

Allen concluded by saying, "I want to thank everyone for shopping with us and making Stanton meats the success that it is. If we can ever help you in anyway please call the store at 281- 331- 4491 or email us at Stanstore@aol.com
